Finding grace in every journey–from home to the open road

January 1, 2026 A grace filled New Year

The beginning of a new year always fills us with optimism, doesn’t it? We dream of the possibilities that lie ahead and make those resolutions in hopes that our current self will undergo a complete transformation in the next 365 days. We purchase new planners, download the newest workout app, and rid our kitchens of the remaining Christmas fudge. This is our year! Time to change everything about who we were in 2025 and take on a new persona!

Generally, that’s not what happens. While some people may crush their New Year’s resolutions, most of us might try hard for the month of January but our momentum taps the brakes when life gets in the way. Our new clean diet goes off the rails for a co-worker’s birthday. Our early morning workouts are sidelined by a snowstorm. The after Christmas sales are too tempting and our goal of decluttering is forgotten.

So why do we continue to try? Why do we start over again and again?

For me, it’s the desire for another year of growth each January 1st. Social media will tell you that nothing you do is good enough and that you will never measure up to society’s standards. The truth is, you are enough just as you are. Your impact on the world around you is unique-no one else can do what you do. Whether you are the listening ear for your upset neighbor, the co-worker who brings in treats at just the right time, or the carpool mom who plays cool music, you are so important in so many lives. Take time this month to celebrate how far you’ve come this past year, who you are now and all of the possibilities 2026 holds for you. Above all, have grace with yourself!
